Let’s Rock Chats With Lawrence Gowan – Round 3

Lawrence Gowan is back on Let’s Rock…and that’s always a good thing. Mr. Gowan is one of the most engaging guests Let’s Rock has ever featured on the site. He is a great storyteller with a great sense of humour, not to mention the fact that he’s a fellow Canadian and one heck of a piano player.

Gowan has been a member of Styx for 23 years, but before that, he had a successful career as a solo artist, especially in Canada. His album Strange Animal shot to number 5 on the Canadian charts, and contains the oft-played-at Styx-concerts single, A Criminal Mind. He reocrded 4 more solo albums (see discography below), before joining Styx in May, 1999.

With Styx, he has recorded 4 albums, (see discography below) including 2021’s Crash of the Crown (Clash of the Clowns(Watch the video)). Lawrence was kind enough to join Let’s Rock again to chat about a myriad of topics, including the topical lyrics on Crash of the Crown, the fourth shortest song in recorded history, the Canadian music scene in the 70s and eighties, his missing food and much, much more.

This chat also taught me a couple of important interviewing reminders: Don’t fuck up the name of your guest’s album, and it’s “Stay safe”, not “Say Stafe”. If you can’t laugh at yourself, you can’t laugh at anyone.
